Multi Zone Conferences and a Baptism

 What a great week we have had! Helping out with the Multi-Zone Conferences is always wonderful and we love seeing all the missionaries and visiting with them. The Conferences themselves were inspiring and uplifting and we’re so impressed with the great work these young elders and sisters do.

We taught our English Connect 1 class and Rich helped an elder struggling with his Spanish. We also made bank payments to renew missionary visas and paid for some medical needs. We made medical appointments that were needed and called and visited with missionaries that have been to the doctor or have been sick recently. It is feast or famine, we went days with no medical needs. Then, in one day we had six…


We attended the temple and saw a dear friend there from our time serving in Cusco. That was super fun. 


A sister whom Rich interviewed a while back asked the sisters who taught her if Rich would baptize her. We were honored to attend her baptism Saturday evening in Vista Alegre. She was so sweet and excited to get baptized. In her testimony she talked about being clean and new and leaving everything from the past behind. She was so humble and joyful. Her daughter wants Rich to baptize her next month. 


On Sunday we attended the Chorrillos Ward and visited with the Elders there. They have a family they’re teaching and trying to get to come to church. We offered to go with them when they next have an appointment with the family. They had two friends at church today and had a new convert come and meet with the bishop to get ordained. They seemed happy and well liked in the ward. 

We feel so fulfilled in what we are doing. We miss our friends and loved ones back home. However, we know that what we are doing blesses lives and have faith that it blesses our family indirectly. We love our mission!

    It’s always so good to read your blog, and know of the importance service you are providing along with the occasional fun activities you are having. We miss you but are happy that you are serving in a beautiful country among such beautiful people.

Last Sunday we attended three different wards with six pairs of missionaries. We are doing that to get acquainted with the assigned missionaries and the members in each ward. Wards are geographically oriented units with a bishop over each. Missionaries are from everywhere from Rockland, Idaho to Tarapoto, Perú.  We’ve had some trouble figuring out our phones. We have both a Verizon number and a Peruvian number.  In the end think we may have figured it all out… We’ll see how the next bill looks. We also had some challenges with the internet but it is the fastest service we have ever had. Two young sister missionaries have been helping us learn how to work the insurance system to get appointments for missionaries with health challenges. They are really sharp and one of them is a Peruvian so she hears all of the subtle vagaries of the language on the phone. It is tricky in Lima because they talk so fast here. Avergonzados But Back in the Blog Saddle, We Hope

 The kids arrival in Lima It has been so long that I suppose some might have thought we gave up and went home. Far from it. We have extended our mission to coincide with our mission president's termination. We will now return home at the end of June, 2025. We were able attend the    dedication of the Los Olivos temple, a truly wonderful experience and we have since been able to attend there. What a beautiful building and feeling.. We have definitely struggled to keep up with our posting a blog to be sure. We will not even attempt a recap. Suffice it to say, we have kept so busy. Two weeks ago, we had a wonderful visit from Glenn, Jenae and their kids. They flew to Lima and we all went up to Cusco together. They came during Spring Break so it was a bit of a whirlwind visit. We made it to the critical sites around Cusco and then went to Machu Picchu. Our trip there was eventful. This is the end of the rainy season and that poses challenges. Our First Transfer Week

  On Sunday we attended two different wards.   We enjoy meeting the members. They are thrilled to have a couple serving here. This mission has never had a couple before. On Monday evening, we went with a driver to pick up a missionary from  a town near Barranquilla, Colombia. She arrived alone from Bogotá. She is beautiful, very sweet and seems to have her act together. On Tuesday we experienced transfers. We had been asked to provide food for the twenty or so who would arrive early and have to wait.  We cut up fruit for a good half hour and took sandwich fixings to the office. They had asked us to come “early” (7:30am), thinking this would be a hardship…We had a wonderful time getting to know so many of these remarkable young people. The office elders  had neglected to check the supplies of sheet sets and pillows. Each newly arrived missionary is supposed to get new sheets and a pillow.
