New Beginnings

Miles Joseph Bower, Star Player in this week's blog

Our week had a fair amount of administrative activity. We made a trip to immigration and got into a line that seemed to stretch to Ecuador. Our appointment was for 8am and we thought, no way we'll be out of her before noon. Somehow, they did it and we walked away at 8:15am! This is the second step in getting our residence visa. It went very smoothly.

The very next day, Rich got a text in the night asking him to take a group of young missionaries to Interpol to begin their residence visa process. Things went haywire because of traffic. Have we mentioned that Lima has the world's worst traffic? They arrived late and barely got in with the help of the good-old-boy contact from the Area Office.

Julie is getting trained in the processes of the office in order to smooth out the process for the replacement elder and to provide some oversight going forward. We made many medical appointments and ancillary arrangements.

We had the office elders, the two assistants to the president, the Jacobsens and Sister Plumb for lunch. Rich fixed pasta a la carbonara and the missionaries inhaled it. It was lots of fun.

Rich met with the presidency of the mission for his first time as counselor. He will have responsibility for the missionary work in three of the stakes in this part of Lima, Surco, San Juan and Santa Patricia.

Much of the rest of our time was occupied in special missionary training meetings. Missionaries were trained on making contacts in a more relaxed fashion. The training was presented by the area leaders and presented by our president. We were glad to participate.

On Friday night we accompanied two sisters to a family home evening with a lovely family. We talked about temples and the family was very interested.

Saturday we attended an open house in the ward we have attended. It ended up with a baptism of three young women, sisters, whose family members are already baptized. It was a very nice evening with a lot of contacts from the neighborhood who came to see what the church is about.

On Sunday we told our ward we have been attending that the work is taking us to other stakes beginning next week. It was sad to bid them farewell. These are very sweet people whom we have come to love very much.

Of all things, the most important event took place far from Lima. In Midland, Texas, our 12th grand baby, Miles Joseph Bower was born April 29, at 10:22pm. He weighed 7lb 4oz and is 20" long. We are thrilled! No one is happier that Miles' 9year old cousin. She thanked Megan for having a baby for her… We are all pretty thrilled. He and his mother are doing very well! We are so, so happy!
